How often should you charge your electric motorcycle battery in winter?

Feb 09, 2026

I. Charging Frequency Guidelines

1. Daily Use (Rides ≥ 3 times per week):

Lead-acid batteries: Charge when the remaining charge is 30%-40%, avoiding deep discharge.

Lithium batteries: Charge when the remaining charge is around 40%, no need to wait until the charge is completely depleted.

2. Long-term Inactivity (No Riding):

Lead-acid batteries: Charge every 1-2 weeks to prevent sulfation.

Lithium batteries: Charge every 1-2 months, ideally storing at around 50% charge.

Extreme Low Temperatures (< -10℃): Regardless of battery type, it is recommended to charge every 2 weeks to maintain activity.

II. Charging Environment and Techniques

1. Charging Environment: Always charge indoors or in a garage above 0℃ to avoid capacity reduction or damage caused by charging at low temperatures.

2. Charging Time: A single charge is recommended for 8-10 hours. After the green light illuminates, you can float charge for 1-2 hours to ensure a full charge, but the total charging time should not exceed 12 hours.

3. Charger Selection: Only original chargers or chargers with matching parameters should be used. Incompatible chargers are strictly prohibited.

III. Storage and Maintenance

1. Storage Location: Store in a dry, well-ventilated, and temperature-stable indoor environment. Avoid outdoor exposure or cold, damp places.

2. Regular Inspection: Check the battery appearance monthly for bulging, leakage, or corrosion. Before charging, allow the battery to warm to room temperature.
