How Long Should I Charge an Electric Motorcycle Battery in Winter?

Feb 11, 2026

In winter, charging an electric motorcycle battery for 8 to 10 hours is ideal. After it's fully charged, remember to float charge for another 1-2 hours, but the total charging time should not exceed 12 hours. Charging is slower in cold weather, so extending the charging time appropriately will ensure sufficient charge.

Charging Time Details

1. Lead-acid batteries: 8-10 hours for normal charging, then float charge for 1-2 hours after the green light comes on. The first charge is recommended to be around 10 hours.

2. Lithium batteries: 6-8 hours for normal charging, automatically stopping when fully charged. The first charge is recommended to be 8-10 hours.

Key Points for Charging in Winter

1. Time: Extend by 1-2 hours, keeping the total charging time within 10-12 hours.

2. Environment: Charge indoors at temperatures above 0℃ to avoid low-temperature damage.

3. Tips: Let the battery warm up before charging, and disconnect the power immediately after it's fully charged to avoid overcharging.

Precautions

1. Charger: Always use the original charger or one with matching parameters.

2. Frequency: Charge when the battery level reaches 30%-40% for daily use; charge once a month if the battery is not in use for extended periods.

3. Safety: Avoid overcharging and over-discharging; check the battery status regularly.
