1. Shortened battery life
Long-term charging will cause excessive chemical reactions inside the battery, accelerate battery aging, and reduce the battery's service life. For example, when a lead-acid battery is charged for a long time, lead sulfate crystals will be generated and attached to the surface of the plate, affecting the charging efficiency and battery capacity.
2. Battery overheating
Long-term charging will increase the battery temperature, which may cause the battery to swell or even explode. Experiments show that the temperature inside the battery box may quickly rise to nearly 900°C, and the ground temperature near the fire point may reach 160°C.
3. Increased risk of fire
Long-term charging, especially charging overnight, is prone to fire. Once there is a problem with the battery, wires or charger, it may cause a short circuit or overheating, which in turn ignites the surrounding flammable materials.
4. Decreased battery capacity
Long-term charging will cause the electrolyte inside the battery to evaporate, and the capacity will gradually decrease, shortening the range of the electric bicycle.
5. Damage to the internal structure of the battery
Long-term charging will change the metal structure inside the battery, causing the battery to swell and even pierce the battery separator, increasing the risk of short circuit.
6. Increased safety risks
Long-term charging may cause the charger shell to overheat, which may easily cause a fire. In addition, using inferior chargers or charging in a hot or humid environment will further increase safety risks.
Preventive measures
Control charging time: It is recommended to control the charging time to 6-8 hours and avoid charging all night.
Use original chargers: Avoid using inferior or mismatched chargers.
Avoid high-temperature charging: Choose a cool and ventilated environment to charge, and avoid charging in a hot or humid environment.
Check the battery regularly: Check the status of the battery and charger regularly, and replace aging or damaged parts in time.
